Meet Roberto Ansaloni, Director of Professional Services August 25, 2009

spot-lightRoberto joined Varsity Logistics in 2003 as a Senior Field Engineer. Working in the field, Roberto had the opportunity to work side-by-side Varsity clients all across the United States. Helping customers is what Roberto loves to do.  “Because of the travel and dedication required, my job choice became a way of life, not just a job.”

Roberto’s commitment to his job is recognized by Varsity customers, who are quick to acknowledge his role in optimizing their shipping operations.  In January 2009, Roberto became a Director of Professional Services where he now joins fellow Professional Services Director, Tom Reber; both oversee the success of every Varsity installation and upgrade. There is an international flair to all that Roberto does. Born in Modena, Italy, where he received his technical training Roberto continued training on AS/400 and studying computer science in Cambridge, England. He then received his Bachelor’s of Science in Computer Science from Florida International University, Miami.  Roberto’s first warehousing and shipping related projects were in Italy in the early 1990’s. In 1996, he began consulting in the United States on warehouse and shipping related projects for EDS, The Sports Authority, Blockbuster, MARS Music, and ANDRX Pharmaceuticals.

Roberto was hired at Varsity the same time as his good friend Rob Strong. Roberto looks back on those times with great sentiment, “We both traveled to San Francisco, a great city in this country.  From the first day I felt at home with Varsity and bonded with everyone and immediately saw an opportunity to learn a lot and get great experience.  I knew I would stay with this company for a long time!”

When asked about his favorite thing about Varsity that people may not know, Roberto emphasizes Varsity’s tight-knit community, “Even though a lot of the Varsity employees work remotely around the country and travel a lot, we are a very close group, always ready to help each other and we are close friends.”

Some things you may not know about Roberto is that he recently purchased a second home in Manhattan and spends a lot of time there. He also insists, “It’s very small! But I love New York City and all it has to offer – it’s the best city ever!”

Roberto continues to emphasize the growth of Varsity and credits it to learning something new every day. What is most valuable lesson learned so far? With a smile he states, “The best way to learn and grow is taking risks and face challenges, both at work, and in life.”

He insists one of his biggest accomplishments at Varsity is from learning, “I have learned so much, through meeting so many different clients and types of businesses. Varsity’s customers have taught me to ‘always think ‘outside the box!’”
