PARCEL AND FREIGHT SHIPPERS GAIN MORE CONTROL AND DEEPER EFFICIENCIES WITH NEW SHIPSOFT-PARCEL 2.6 AND SHIPSOFT-FREIGHT 3.4 RELEASES

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. — June 6, 2007 —Varsity Logistics, Inc., the leader in integrated shipping solutions for the IBM® System i platform, announced today that it has released the newest versions of the company's core solutions for automated parcel and freight shipping, ShipSoft-Parcel™ 2.6 and ShipSoft-Freight™ 3.4.

ShipSoft-Parcel 2.6 Key Enhancements

Many customer-driven, value-adding enhancements have been included in Varsity’s new ShipSoft-Parcel 2.6. Ship With Other Goods (SWOG) enables shipping cost savings by identifying and combining orders going to the same location and with similar characteristics. ShipSoft-Parcel 2.6 can be configured by user and/or location to limit access to only those programs and screens that are relevant to the user/location. Bill of Lading (BoL) enhancements enable multi-stop shipments and consolidation with a VICS format Bill of Lading. The solution's already strong data security and integrity have been further strengthened via enhanced access control, leveraging the System i platform's unsurpassed security support architecture.

Other capabilities now within the base ShipSoft-Parcel 2.6 software library include:

  • Carrier compliance updates eliminate the need for multiple event libraries.
  • Built in support for current Carrier Compliance Kits (CCKs). Optional current CCKs include FedEx US CCK, DHL US CCK, USPS US CCK, UPS Domestic CCK, UPS International CCK, BAX CCK, CA Overnight CCK, Purolator Canada CCK, and UPS Canada CCK.
  • Support for the updated Varsity SpeedWeigh™ 1.5 module provides automated pass-through of scale weight information to ShipSoft-Parcel.
  • Export Documents for domestic shipments supports domestic shipments that require international documentation, working with the optional Export Documents module.
  • Enhanced ZIP Code management enables users to activate and deactivate ZIP codes at their discretion for any Varsity CCK that uses the Varsity Zone File.

ShipSoft-Freight 3.4 Key Enhancements

Varsity ShipSoft-Freight solutions for LTL, truckload, and rail shipments in North America automate the complicated tasks of load tendering, LTL rating, shipment planning, carrier and mode selection, shipment documentation and confirmation, and freight auditing and payment. The new ShipSoft-Freight 3.4 release contains important new features including:

  • Carrier provided Transit Time and Points of Service for over 135 LTL carriers to determine if a carrier serves a point “directly” or via an “interline” carrier as well as the estimated delivery date for the shipment based on carrier-published transit time.
  • Carrier calendar functionality enables users to see the system travel days, or non-travel days, for a carrier.
  • Deficit rating override such that if a carrier does not allow user to deficit rate shipments, users can establish that within rate records.
  • Delivery point "served or not served" LTL carrier recommendations.
  • Streamlined plan modification functionality provides the ability to change recommended carriers and suggest shipment departure date from within the online review function.
  • Simplified carrier information identification functionality eliminates the need to remember which carriers were entered/set up in the system in order to find, review, and modify carrier-specific settings.
  • Automated/simplified balance due processing allows for the set up and control of manual and/or automatic processing and payment of balance due freight bills for user-specified carriers.
  • Transit Time / Points of Service features including rating accuracy for direct, indirect, or direct and indirect shipments as well as quality shipment planning through enhanced carrier selection for more realistic shipping plan recommendations.

Varsity new ShipSoft-Parcel 2.6 and ShipSoft-Freight 3.4 releases enable significant additional process automation to drive additional gains in shipping efficiency, accuracy, and speed. These benefits are applicable to many companies ranging from those operations with single carrier domestic shipments to multi-site organizations that ship globally through multiple parcel, less-than-truckload (LTL), truckload (TL), and rail carriers. When both parcel and freight shipping are needed, Varsity ShipSoft-Parcel and ShipSoft-Freight seamlessly integrate for centralized shipping management.

"Varsity Logistics is committed to building upon the powerful capabilities of our industry leading parcel and freight modules for the IBM System i, and these two significant releases deliver on that commitment. ShipSoft-Parcel 2.6 and ShipSoft-Freight 3.4 provide greater speed, flexibility, security, carrier support, and accuracy than ever before," notes Doug Dolge, Sr. Director of Development at Varsity Logistics. "The deeper level of automation that these releases provide will enable our customers to further streamline their shipping processes for enhanced customer service, reduced shipping errors, and improved time and human capital efficiencies."
