VARSITY LOGISTICS RELEASES SHIPPACK™ 2.1
Latest release of Varsity's pick/pack module adds key customer-driven enhancements
San Francisco, CA. June 11, 2001. Varsity Logistics, Inc., the pioneer of integrated small package shipping solutions for the AS/400, today announced that it has released ShipPack 2.1. Part of Varsity's supply chain execution suite, ShipPack adds pick/pack functionality to ShipSoft, Varsity's small package shipping solution for the IBM iSeries (AS/400).
Designed for maximum flexibility, ShipPack provides line-item visibility into the contents of each package, including description, size, weight, and contents--greatly expanding ShipSoft's track and trace functionality. Furthermore, ShipPack mitigates costly routing guide violations and consignee penalties by providing order information on compliant barcodes (UCC 128), labels and packing lists. For those that need them, ShipPack automatically generates ASNs in EDI format (856), and produces customized forms and labels to meet the specific customer requirements.
"In our industry, freshness is everything", said Larry Keating, Director of IT at Long Grove Confectionary Co. "Since ShipPack automatically creates EDI labels with line-item package details, our customers quickly receive orders and are able to speed our product to the shelf. With complete control and visibility of package contents, we have tighter inventory management, 100% packing accuracy, and excellent customer service."
The ShipPack 2.1 release includes significant new product enhancements, such as parcel nesting capabilities, pick list management tools, and a new two-way ERP system interface. ShipPack efficiently "nests" parcels into one another, to build pallets or trailers, and provides consolidation of multiple orders in a container. The new pick list management tools format shipment information in ShipSoft so that it physically matches the format from ERP- or WMS-generated pick lists. The two-way ShipPack 2.1 interface pulls pick list details directly from an ERP system, and populates the pick ticket details against which the order will be packed. The interface runs in real-time, so information flows into ShipPack at the time the order is being packed, and back to the ERP system for 100% closed-loop accuracy.
